There are two type of health insurance you can apply for: Fee-for-Service and Managed Care. These plans different, however, they both cover various medical, surgical and hospital expenses. Most plans cover prescription drugs and offer dental coverage as well.
Fee-for-Service assumes the medical professional will be paid a fee for each service provided to the patient. Patients are seen by a physician of their preference and claim is filed by either the medical provider or the patient.
Managed care is used by more than half of all Americans. These plans work in a different way and can incorporate health maintenance organizations or HMOs, preferred provider organizations (PPOs) and point-of-service (POS) plans. These plans provide comprehensive health services to their members and offer financial incentives to patients who use the providers in the plan.
